A WWII Air Force veteran was capable of have fun his a hundredth birthday again within the sky due to a nonprofit “dedicated to honoring seniors and military veterans.”

Dream Flights teamed upwith the Arkansas-based assisted residing facility Elmcroft of Mountain Home as a way to give Bob Cwiak a gift he might have by no means imagined.

In celebration of his huge day Monday, Cwiak was flown in a WWII biplane on the Baxter Regional Airport in Midway, Arkansas. 

The veteran informed Fox News that he was “taken aback” by the 22-minute expertise, saying it introduced again recollections of his days throughout WWII. 

It was his first time again within the sky since 1963. However, 1945 was the final time he flew bombardier for the U.S. Air Force whereas stationed in Spinazzola, Italy. The bombardier stood or knelt down on the nostril of the airplane and was in control of releasing the bombs. 

Cwiak, who ultimately turned a 1st Lieutenant, and his crew primarily flew missions over Nazi-occupied central Europe.

“The acceleration of being back in the air was great…the wind in my hair,” Cwiak stated of Monday’s flight. “I would like to be up there again.”

It’s a want that can be granted for his birthday yearly. 

The nonprofit “actually told him when he came down that since he is turning a century old, he gets to go up every year,” Katie Hammet, wholesome life director for Elmcroft of Mountain Home, informed Fox News.

Dream Flights, based in 2011, honors “military veterans and seniors with the adventure of a lifetime: a flight in a Boeing Stearman biplane.” 

It’s the identical plane that was used to coach navy aviators within the late Thirties and early Forties.
