Will The Book of Boba Fett return for season 2? Renewal hopes explored

Following the post-credits tease in season 2 of The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett became the newest Star Wars TV series when it arrived on Disney+ in December 2021.

The series continues the story of the most feared and infamous bounty hunter in the galaxy as he sets his sights on becoming a crime lord after taking Jabba the Hutt’s throne.

Episodes of the series have been airing weekly and as the finale continues to draw nearer, fans have begun to ask whether The Book of Boba Fett could return for season 2.

Will The Book of Boba Fett return for season 2?

At the time of writing, Lucasfilm has yet to officially announce whether The Book of Boba Fett will continue for a second season.

The biggest clue we have about the series’ future so far has come from Boba Fett himself, Temuera Morrison, as he told the Express back in July 2021: “I think they’ll [Lucasfilm/Disney] have to consider some things… The tree is still growing.

“They’ll probably want to test the waters first, there’s been no talk about it,” he said.

Morrison’s comments should come as little surprise as, at the time he made them, the series was still several months away and was shrouded in secrecy as all Star Wars releases are.

Now that The Book of Boba Fett has been released, however, Lucasfilm and Disney will likely want to study the reaction to the series before committing to its future but hopefully, we won’t be waiting too long to learn more.

What we’d like to see in The Book of Boba Fett season 2

After a handful of episodes, we’ve been largely impressed by The Book of Boba Fett so far but have been left wanting a little more from the bounty hunter-turned-crime boss’s story.

Namely, to see a little bit more of Boba’s cold, calculating and ruthless side that made his first movie appearance in The Empire Strikes Back so iconic.

While it’s been interesting to see Fett’s character fleshed out when his face has not been hidden behind his helmet (such as him now being a proud rancor dad), the fact that Fennec and Boba’s crew have had to bail him out a few times while fighting does lessen the mythos that Boba was once the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy.

But then again, then how often do crime lords get their own hands dirty? Perhaps if Boba was betrayed by one of his allies, it could see him take the lead in the action.

Also, it’s a shame that Boba’s Tusken tribe were all apparently killed off in episode 3, as it would have been fascinating to see them team up with Fett and become more prominent on Tatooine as his criminal empire grew. Who knows, maybe some members of the tribe survived?

Fans discuss season 2 hopes

While The Book of Boba Fett has only just arrived, a number of Star Wars fans have already taken to social media to discuss their hopes for what a potential second season could look like.

One fan on Twitter wrote: “My prediction is that Qi’ra [from Solo: A Star Wars Story] would appear in the last episode of The Book of Boba Fett and then we’ll get her in season 2.”

While this fan joked: “I can’t wait until The Book Of Boba Fett Season 2: The Search For More Water.”

This fan referenced another bounty hunter in their comment, saying: “If Cad Bane doesn’t make a cameo in Book of Boba Fett or is not set up to be the main villain in season 2, I’ll be p****d.”

And finally, this fan commented: “Imagine Book of Boba Fett having a Season 2 where Temuera Morrison plays Jango in flashbacks in the vein of The Godfather Part II.”
