Why Monster Hunter Rise PC has no crossplay multiplayer with Switch

16

Monster Hunter Rise comes out on PC and Capcom has confirmed why there is no crossplay and cross-platform multiplayer with Nintendo Switch.

The game has been available on Nintendo’s handheld console since March 2021. Although the game has already been available to play for several months, most reviews seem to agree that the forthcoming port is the superior version.

It will consume your life whether you’re a newcomer or returning fan, but there is slightly disappointing news if you already own the game on Switch.

Is Monster Hunter Rise PC crossplay?

Monster Hunter Rise is not crossplay as it has no cross-platform multiplayer between PC and Nintendo Switch.

This isn’t surprising as the feature also isn’t available for World and that game is playable on PlayStation and Xbox, too. While the lack of cross-platform multiplayer is disappointing albeit expected, fans may be more annoyed to hear that there is also no cross-save.

While the ability to team up with hunters on other platforms would have been appreciated, the inability to transfer saves is arguably more upsetting. Nintendo Switch owners will have to start all over again if they buy the game on Steam, meanwhile those on computers will not be able to play on the go unless they wait for the Steam Deck to come out in February.

Why is there no cross platform multiplayer for Monster Hunter Rise?

Capcom has said that there is no crossplay or cross platform multiplayer for Monster Hunter Rise because it simply couldn’t be implemented.

The series’ official Twitter account posted in October 2021 that they had looked at it during development, but they were simply unable to add either multiplayer or cross-saves. Unfortunately, no more specific details have been shared.

As for what the online gameplay is all about, you can team-up with three other players. This allows you to all venture together while tracking down and fighting magnificent beasts.

We’ve heard your requests for Cross-Save / Cross-Play for #MHRise & #Sunbreak, but unfortunately, after looking into it throughout the development process, we found we are unable to implement it this time. As always, we appreciate your continued feedback and support.
