In September and October 2021, undercover officers began communicating with Johnson online on an undisclosed social media site and via text messaging.

The undercover officers postulate the identities of 14 and 16-year-old females. During the communications, Johnson had explicit text messaging conversations in which he discussed sexual activity with minors.
He sent images and videos of his genitals to a sixteen-year-old minor, whom he mistook for the minor.
Johnson also requested a child pornographic image from an officer, whom he believed to be a 16-year-old female. Communications with the 16-year-old undercover persona were still ongoing at the time of Johnson’s arrest.
