West Ham told Pochettino’s player will cost £21m, but surely he is ideal for Tottenham this month?

West Ham have been reoprtedly told that if they want to sign Paris Saint-Germain defender Abdou Diallo this month – then it must be a permanent deal. But at £21million, Tottenham have got to throw their hat into the ring.

Diallo, 25, is on the fringes at PSG. While he has played 72 times since his move from Dortmund to the Ligue 1 giants, he has been a bit-part player. When Pochettino names his best side, Diallo is some way from it.

Indeed, the signing of Nuno Mendes to battle Juan Bernat has limited Diallo playing at left-back – as has Sergio Ramos at centre-back. West Ham are keen to take advantage – battling Milan for his signature.

90Min say that PSG are unwilling to let Diallo leave the club on loan this month – but are ready to let Diallo go on a permanent basis. That is, if their asking price of £21million is met. It remains to be seen if West Ham will pay.

But surely, Tottenham need to rival West Ham for Pochettino’s Diallo?

Alasdair Gold recently reported that Antonio Conte wants four signings at Tottenham this month – in the form of a right wing-back, a left-sided centre-back, a midfielder and a back-up striker. Diallo solves one of those issues.

He is ideal on the left of a back three, and can even provide cover as a left wing-back given Matt Doherty has been playing in that role of late. At £21million, Diallo might be the ideal addition.

He has pace, he has strength, quality on the ball and is inredibly rigid in his defence. Still young at 25, £21million is a bargain and with Tottenham needing a left-sided centre-back – they must rival West Ham for Diallo.
