Ten people connected to Delta variant outbreak at Calgary hospital were fully immunized

CALGARY – Alberta Health Services says most people who tested positive at a Calgary hospital for the more contagious COVID-19 variant first reported in India had mild symptoms, except one person who was admitted into intensive care.

The province’s chief medical health officer confirmed Thursday that 10 people connected to the Delta variant outbreak at Foothills Medical Centre were fully immunized before testing positive.

Officials have said there were 16 cases in patients on two units at Foothills Medical Centre.

Six health-care workers also tested positive for the variant.

Alberta Health Services did not say whether the person in intensive care was fully vaccinated.

Premier Jason Kenney has said the Delta variant was first detected in Alberta on April 9 and there were just over 100 active cases on Thursday.
