SM Entertainment has shared a concerning update regarding the K-pop global star SHINee Taemin’s military service and fans are pouring prayers over social media. Here, we take a look at Taemin’s discharge date and SM’s health update of SHINee star.

Lee Taemin, aka the reigning K-pop prince, enlisted in the Military on May 31st, 2021. After a mandatory six weeks of basic training, he joined military band as an active member. Much like Taemin’s popularity worldwide, the SHINee star’s presence in the military band was praised.

The ‘Advice’ crooner had earlier stated in the official blog of Military Manpower Administration, “I usually enjoyed singing, and it was the best fit for me.”

He further added: “I have the advantage of being able to develop my own special skills by utilizing my abilities here.”

What happened to Taemin in the military? SM Entertainment shares mental health update

On the morning of January 14th, SM Entertainment has shared a major health update of Lee Taemin.

According to the entertainment label, Taemin will be completing his military duty as a public service worker.

SM Entertainment explained, “As of January 14, Taemin has been transferred from the military band to supplementary service.”

“Due to the symptoms of depression and anxiety that Taemin has been suffering from before [his enlistment], he continued to receive treatment and therapy even while carrying out his service.”

It added, “However because his symptoms recently worsened, the military determined that it had become impossible for him to continue his military life and treatment at the same time, and he was accordingly transferred to supplementary service.”

“Therefore, Taemin plans to fulfill his military duty as a public service worker.”

Taemin’s military discharge date explored

Taemin will be completing his mandatory military period approximately on November 27th, 2022 finishing his 320 days of service starting from May 31st, 2021.

The discharge date can change as at times, artists get discharged early for performing exemplary service.

While fans are still not sure about the accurate date of discharge, Shawols as SHINee fans are called has started the countdown from now on.

Shawols pour well wishes for Taemin

Concerned Taemin fans are flooding social media with well-wishes for Taemin. While some are wondering if Taemin can be discharged early, others are praying for his quick recovery.

A Shawol wrote, “I really just hope treatment goes well for Taemin and he is receiving loads of support and love from everyone around him, I’m wishing him the best on his road with treatment!”

A second fan echoed, “I just want Taemin to be healthy mentally and physically I always want to see him smile and be able to do what he loves and that is performing I pray that those who have been here from the start or just joined will always be by his side to be there for him!”

SHINee Taemin released his last EP ‘Advice’ right before the military enlistment. Along with its commercial success, ‘Advice’ received a sea of critical praises for its nuanced treatment of gender and identity of self.

The EP also made it to almost every major publication’s list of Best K-pop releases including Time, NME, Rolling Stone India, Dazed, Teen Vogue and more.
