Michael Dawson has said on Sky Sports News (12:46pm, January 15, 2022) that the North London derby between Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur should not be postponed.

Tottenham and Arsenal are scheduled to lock horns at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the Premier League on Sunday.

However, there is a chance that the North London club may not go ahead.

Arsenal have stated on their official website that they have applied for the North London derby against Tottenham to be postponed.

“We have reluctantly taken this step but we have many players currently unavailable across our squad as a result of Covid, injuries and players away with their countries at AFCON,” reads the statement.

Former Tottenham defender Dawson, who is also the Spurs Ambassador, has said that the match should not be postponed.

Dawson said: “12 players out? How many with COVID? It is becoming a mockery.

“It really is, not just Arsenal, but I think a lot of clubs are getting games postponed to their advantage. You are talking about players going out on loan. Keep those fringe players.”

Tottenham Hotspur v Arsenal should go ahead

In our view, the North London derby between Tottenham and Arsenal should go ahead.

Arsenal have only one player who has COVID-19 issues – Martin Odegaard.

We do not think that there is a strong enough reason to have a match postponed.

Yes, Arsenal have players such as Thomas Partey at the Africa Cup of Nations, and Granit Xhaka is suspended.

But, those are footballing reasons, not coronavirus reasons.
