Potential Tottenham blow as Barcelona reportedly eye Spurs transfer ‘priority’

ESPN claim Barcelona are keen to elbow Tottenham aside and raid Wolves to bring Adama Traore back to the Nou Camp. Spurs have held talks over a £17million move – but Fabio Paratici is taking his time in striking a deal.

Traore, who turned 26 on Tuesday, has entered the final 18 months of his Wolves contract and a move to Spurs seemed inevitable. Tottenham had offered £15million, while Wolves wanted £20million – a deal seemed close.

However, ESPN report Barcelona are about to throw a spanner in the works. Despite their dismal financial situation, which saw Ferran Torres have to wait to be registered, they are keen on luring Traore back to Barca.

Traore came through the La Masia academy. A return to his first club would surely be tempting. Whether Tottenham can see off Barcelona remains to be seen – but he is a ‘priority’ according to The Mail’s Sami Mobkel.

Barcelona join Traore race: Should Tottenham pay up for Wolves star?

While Traore has been strongly linked and at times, a deal looked inevitable, is he really the player that is going to improve them? Antonio Conte is said to see Traore as a right wing-back.

Spurs have since been linked with Porto’s Luis Diaz, a genuine superstar that would enormously improve the London club’s front three. Is it a case of either or, in Traore or Diaz? Probably not.

But with Spurs now said to be focusing on a deal for Colombian sensation Diaz, they might lose track of securing a move for Traore. With Barcelona now interested, a move to Spain could be on the cards.
