According to The Telegraph, Newcastle are thinking about pinching Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton, with Arsenal also keen.

What’s the story?

Well, The Telegraph believe Calvert-Lewin has been part of recruitment discussions at Newcastle this week, as the Magpies aim to stay in the Premier League.

The report states that Amanda Staveley is hoping to find a standout No.9 to follow in the footsteps of Alan Shearer.

Everton are said to be bracing themselves for bids, with just days until Monday’s transfer deadline.

Arsenal retain an interest in Calvert-Lewin, who has been absent for most of the season with a toe injury.

The 11-cap England international has still managed to score three Premier League goals in his six appearances this term.

Despite the arrival of Chris Wood, Newcastle are still looking at Calvert-Lewin, who cost Everton £1.5m in 2016.

Should Arsenal fail to sign the 24-year-old, they are also looking at Real Sociedad forward Alexander Isak.

In our view, Everton won’t sell Calvert-Lewin to a Premier League rival – we would be shocked if a deal materialised.

Just look at what’s happening over at Goodison Park right now.

There are fan protests aimed at Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright for the way in which they run the club, and the mood is extremely toxic.

In that respect, if the pair then went on to sell Calvert-Lewin – who is arguably Everton’s best player – there would be uproar.

It would be a mind-boggling decision, especially as the Toffees could still suffer relegation from the Premier League.

As things stand, Everton sit 16th, just four points above the relegation zone.

Keep an eye on the situation just in case, although we’d be shocked if Newcastle or Arsenal actually signed Calvert-Lewin.
