Lucky Plaza Accident Video, Fatal Crash Drive Gets Sentenced For 2.5 Years Jail


The driver at the center of the 2019 car crash at Lucky Plaza, which killed two women and wounded four others, was imprisoned for two and a half years on Friday (September 24). Chong Kim Hoe, 66, a permanent resident of Singapore, pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving that led to the deaths of 41-year-old Abigail Danao Leste and 50-year-old Arlyn Picar Nucos. Not only this, but he also admitted to two other counts of dangerous driving and he caused several people with his car. These charges were treated as part of his plea in sentencing.

Talking about the accused, Chong is a Malaysian working as a Grab driver when the incident took place. The accident in which six people were crushed by the car of Chong was happened on 29th December 2019 at around 5:00 PM. The incident happened when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brakes. He wants to take a U-turn and Nutmeg Road behind Lucky Plaza but he mistakenly stepped on the accelerator.

After that, the scene was captured on CCTV and very terrifying. The car climbed onto the footway from Nutmeg Road, by a guard rail, and onto Lucky Plaza’s service road. Chong crashed all the six victims of which two were dead after facing the dreaded accident. The CCTV Footage of the incident went viral on several social media platforms and was shared by several netizens. The car was then seen passing a group of people before falling off the railing and hitting the road below, leaving the Lucky Plaza car park. When the case has been filed against Chong, his lawyer Kalaithasan Karuppaya said Chong had been driving for the past 44 years without involving in any serious accident prior to this.

The court also stated that Chong was previously been fined for did not follow the Traffic signals four times. Apart from the prison, Chong was also banned from driving for 10 years when he releases from the prison. For injuries caused by dangerous driving, Chong could face up to two years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
