Is Women of the Movement renewed for season 2?

No and there is no reason to expect renewal news because Women of the Movement is billed as a mini-series.

The production serves as an adaptation of Devery S. Anderson’s book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement. Of course, it’s based on a true story.

So, the makers approached the project with an ending in mind, ensuring that the six episodes told the entire story they wished to tell.

After witnessing the conclusion with episode 6, there’s no reason to suspect that the writers would want to work on season 2. However, it’s likely that they may wish to work on a similarly important and thematic TV series.

“I did not want to be that show”

During a conversation with AssignmentX, Marissa Jo Cerar opened up regarding her intentions and creative decisions on Women of the Movement:

“It was really important to me that we did not begin the series with a dead body. I did not want to be that show. I wanted to begin with birth because I wanted the audience to see their brother, their cousin, their neighbor, their child’s friend at school, their student, the little boy who walks into the corner store.”

She continued: “I didn’t want them to see a victim in a body bag because that’s what we see too frequently in the news … I wanted this to be a family drama that happens to be about a true crime.”
