Gezahegne breaks 10km street race world report in Geneva


Oct 3 (Reuters) – Bahrain’s Kalkidan Gezahegne received the Giants Geneva 10K in 29 minutes 38 seconds on Sunday to take 5 seconds off the ladies’s world report for a 10km street race when males are additionally competing.

The Ethiopian-born 30-year-old, who received 10,000 metres silver behind Sifan Hassan on the Tokyo Olympics in August, bettered the mark of 29.43 set by Kenya’s Joyciline Jepkosgei in 2017.

Agnes Tirop, who final month set a brand new report for women-only races on the distance in a time of 30.01, completed second together with her fellow Kenyan Celliphine Chespol third.

Kenya’s half marathon world report holder Kibiwott Kandie received the boys’s race in 26 minutes, 51 seconds.
