CHENNAI (REUTERS) – Indian police detained scores of individuals for blocking highways in a protest in opposition to meals poisoning incident at a Foxconn India unit, which makes iPhones for Apple Inc, a police official stated on Sunday (Dec 19).
More than 150 workers at Foxconn’s manufacturing unit in southern India had been hospitalised after a bout of meals poisoning at Foxconn’s dormitories, the place a majority of its workers lives.
Food poisoning sparked protests by employees and their kinfolk, who blocked a key Chennai-Bengaluru freeway for a number of hours, stated a police official stated.
“Nearly 70 women and 22 men have been detained since Saturday for blocking highway,” the official stated.
Foxconn didn’t instantly reply to a request for remark.
