“But we have experienced over now close to 20 months of surges that go up and then come down and then go back up again. The way to keep it down, to make that turnaround continue to go down, is to do what we mentioned: Get people vaccinated.”
Fauci, who’s the nation’s prime infectious illness knowledgeable, stated unvaccinated Americans are holding the nation within the “danger zone.”
“When you have 70 million people in the country who are eligible to be vaccinated who are not yet vaccinated, that’s the danger zone right there,” he stated. “So it’s within our capability to make sure that that turnaround that we’re seeing — that very favorable and optimistic turnaround — continues to go down and doesn’t do what we’ve seen multiple times before, where it goes down and then it comes back up.”
Fauci stated it was “very painful” to replicate on the greater than 700,000 Americans who’ve died from the virus.
“Many of those deaths were unavoidable, but many, many … were avoidable and will in the future be avoidable,” Fauci stated in a separate interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
“The quantity itself is staggering. … But hopefully, that may then spur us to comprehend that we do have interventions within the type of a vaccine to stop an infection to stop extreme illness to stop loss of life.
“So, when you see a [fatality] number like this, I would hope people will say well, ‘We have a tool to not let that get any worse, let’s utilize it.’”
