Canberra man shot dead at his own front door in late-night attack

A man has been shot dead at his own front door in Canberra overnight, according to ACT police.

Emergency services were called to the Mansfield Place property in Phillip at 11.45pm last night after reports of shots being fired.

They found a 48-year-old man with a single gunshot wound.

He was rushed to hospital but died a short time later.

Police say the man opened his front door to the late-night visitors, who fired a single shot then fled.

Investigators from ACT police and the Australian Federal Police remain at the scene this morning and sections of Mansfield Place have been cordoned off.

They have seized a number of items from the home as evidence, but have not located a gun.

A woman was also inside the home at the time but she was not injured.

Investigators haven’t established a motive for the shooting, but don’t currently believe it has links to outlawed motorcycle gangs.

They are calling for anyone who may have information relating to the incident to come forward, including anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of the area.
