A California surfer was left in crucial situation Sunday morning after an obvious shark assault off the Bay Area coast.

The surfer, who’s in his 30s, was not recognized. The assault occurred close to Bodega Bay and sufferer suffered a chunk to his thigh. He was with a bunch of surfers and his buddy witnessed the assault.

“I saw the dorsal fin of the shark and then I saw the tail fin of the shark,” Jared Davis, the good friend, told KTVU. “They were going down into the water. It definitely wasn’t like a quick attack. It was nice and slow. Kind of like a dolphin peaking up.”

The different surfers helped the sufferer get to shore and tried to cease the bleeding. The sufferer was airlifted to a hospital at about 9 a.m. and is predicted to outlive.

SFGate reported that shark assaults off California are uncommon. There have been fewer than 200 incidents since 1950, the report stated, citing the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
